CRAVITY’s “Slimy Concept” Photos Sends K-Netz into Shock: Gross or Creative?

K-pop boy group CRAVITY is stirring up serious buzz ahead of their June 23 comeback with the mini-album “Dare To Crave”, but not exactly in the way fans expected. In particular, on June 15, Starship Entertainment released a mood teaser photo that instantly sent shockwaves across online communities for its shocking and visually jarring concept.

In particular, the photos it zooms in on a glistening, gelatinous body sprawled across the floor, dripping with a mysterious, slippery substance. The slimy surface glimmers under sunlight, creating an eerily visceral effect that left many netizens squirming. From comparisons to funny objects like snot, saliva, and crab soup, some have even let their minds wander to bodily fluids, making this teaser the center of a viral conversation on social platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

While some fans expressed discomfort, especially those aversions to gooey textures, others applauded CRAVITY’s boldness. Comments ranged from “This looks like something out of a horror game” to “It’s weird, but I can’t stop looking at it.”
According to Starship’s explanation and the concept rollout, the unsettling imagery ties into the group’s rebirth theme. The slimy fluid is meant to represent an embryonic state or a creature breaking free from a shell. In recent concept photos, all nine members, namely Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung, and Seongmin, are depicted emerging from eggs, reinforcing the symbolic narrative of renewal, transformation, and self-discovery.

The artistic direction has since drawn comparisons to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” era, known for its embrace of the unconventional and raw expressions of identity.

Meanwhile, CRAVITY, who debuted in 2020 under Starship Entertainment, has built a strong reputation with successful releases like the “Hideout” series, “The Awakening”, and “Master: Piece”. In 2024, they won “Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace”, further solidifying their place in K-pop’s 4th gen front line. Their fanbase, lovingly called LUVITY, continues to grow both domestically and internationally.
